Elbow Arthroscopy

This is a minimally invasive procedure of the joint with quicker recovery time due to the small incisions. Arthroscopy, or Minimally Invasive “keyhole” surgery, allows the surgeon to look into the elbow joint, make an exact diagnosis, and treat the condition with an operation that requires very small skin cuts. We use specially made instruments that fit through the small skin incisions and we visualise the joint using a camera. Because this technique disturbs the joint less than open surgery, the hospital stay is shorter and the recovery smoother than with conventional “open surgery”. Elbow arthroscopy can be performed in early rheumatoid and osteoarthritis to improve motion and provide pain relief. Similar to shoulder and knee arthroscopy, elbow arthroscopy is performed with several (3 or 4) small 1 cm incisions over the elbow joint. Through these small incisions or portals, the surgeon can remove loose bodies from the elbow joint, remove the inflamed synovium, shave off bone spurs, as well as remove scar tissue in the elbow joint. Elbow arthroscopy is also very effective in the treatment of catching and clicking from loose bodies. There are several conditions that can be treated with elbow arthroscopic surgery:

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections For Tennis & Golfer's Elbow

The platelet rich plasma (PRP), a portion of the patient’s own blood having a high platelet concentration, helps to promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. Several clinical studies have demonstrated that PRP injections have improved function and decreased pain to various conditions, including elbow, wrist, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle tendonosis. Early work is also showing promise for osteoarthritis. The side effects of PRP injections are very limited as the patient is utilizing their own blood, which they will have no reaction to. Some relative rest is needed immediately following the procedure, then usually followed by a progressive stretching and strengthening the program. We are specialists in providing PRP injections for elbow problems like TENNIS ELBOW & GOLFERS ELBOW. We take your own blood which is just like giving blood for blood tests. Then, using correct centrifuge techniques PRP is prepared. It’s usually ready within 1 hour. After this the injection is given with sterile precautions. You can immediately go home after the procedure. No anaesthesia is required.

Elbow Replacement (Total Elbow Arthroplasty)

Your elbow can be damaged by problems ranging from rheumatoid arthritis to traumatic fractures. In some cases, the damage can be surgically repaired. But if the damage is extensive, we might recommend elbow replacement surgery. Elbow replacement surgery is a complicated procedure partly because the elbow has several moving parts that balance each other with great precision to control the movements of your forearm. In elbow replacement surgery, the damaged joint is removed and an artificial (prosthetic) joint is inserted into your arm bones. The joint is a metallic implant that is cemented into your humerus and ulna bones with a plastic bearing. Elbow replacement is usually reserved for low demand patients or patients with advanced stages of rheumatoid arthritis

Stiff Elbow Release

If your elbow is stiff and does not have a full range of movements, then your surgeon can do an operation to release the scar tissue around the elbow joint and increase the movements. This can be done either through a key hole or arthroscopic surgery (when the scar tissue is inside your joint) or through open surgery (when the scar tissue is outside your joint). This operation is called elbow arthrolysis

Elbow Ligament Reconstruction

Elbow instability is looseness in the elbow joint that causes the joint to pop or slide out of place during certain arm movements. It occurs as a result of an injury — typically, an elbow dislocation. This type of injury can damage the ligaments that surround the elbow joint. When the elbow is loose and repeatedly feels as if it might slip out of place, it may require surgical Ligament reconstruction. Most ligament tears cannot be stitched back together, the ligament must be reconstructed. During the procedure, we replace the torn ligament with a tissue graft. This graft acts as a new ligament. In most cases, the ligament can be reconstructed using one of the patient’s own tendons
